524 green places to visit in Costa Rica

About Pura-Verde.com

Pura-Verde.com is a map and directory of places that look after Costa Rica's forests, oceans, wildlife and communities, made for travellers who want their trip to help.

What this site is

Costa Rica is full of people doing good things: lodges that protect their own forest, rescue centres nursing sloths and owls back to health, volunteers guarding turtle nests at night, villages living off the land. Pura-Verde.com puts them all on one map, so you can find them and visit.

Every place on the map has a pin, a category and, where it has one, a link to its own website. The directory lists every place, A to Z within each category.

How we choose places

We look for places that protect nature, wildlife or communities and that travellers can visit, stay at or support. We check each one against its own website, official registers and other public sources, and we never take payment to be listed. Read more in how we choose places.

Pizote Press

Pura-Verde.com is part of Pizote Press, a small group of independent Costa Rica travel guides. Each one sticks to the corner of the country it knows best, and here that's green travel.

The pizote is the white-nosed coati, the ring-tailed explorer you'll meet on trails and beaches all over Costa Rica. It pokes its nose into everything, which is roughly how we like to check a place before it goes on the map.
